It's SUPER TUESDAY!

Friends,

Let's remember to vote today. It's important. Even if you think your vote doesn't count.. it clearly counts more than the votes of all my devastated students who didn't get their absentee ballots from San Jose until yesterday and now cannot turn them in on time. So I say, vote because you can !

What an amazing thing - democracy. The ability to have a say in your government and in the future of your country and fellow citizens. Isn't that something to get excited about? When you look around the world and all the devastated nations, people oppressed in far too many ways, unable to have a voice... we should feel so very blessed to have the privilege of voting without the fear of being persecuted for it.

Voting is caring. Voting is getting outside of yourself and your bubble. I think we have an obligation to vote because we have an obligation to care. To care about people and their plight and to figure out the best way to help them.

Course our government is flawed. Course politics and cattiness get in the way of the issues. Course if every policy issue was solved we wouldn't have a perfect world. But change is going to happen inevitably with someone new in the office. Don't you want to voice your opinion on what kind of change you want?

I'm not endorsing Obama. He's not the first to talk about hope and change - all the candidates want that. But it's just an inspirational music video :)

It's decided - engagement stories are way better than chick flicks.

In other news -

a 23 degree high plus wind chill in NYC is far too cold for me. When your hands no longer feel like a part of you, something is wrong with the world. I know other people are in far colder climates.. but I also am not afraid to admit my limitations.

i love that my dad called me twice after his surgery to tell me that he was doing ok. He doesn't remember the 2nd time. Nor does he remember saying "I'm very happy right now." It seriously was the best voicemail I've ever received. yay for drugs!

I forgot to send in my request for an absentee ballot to vote in the primaries..

I kept remembering it was somewhere on my desk and now I look at it and I was supposed to drop it in the mail yesterday. great.

what a hypocrite I am.

I hope there are more responsible voters in my age bracket to make up for me.

VOTE! care about the people who run our country and who make decisions. Even if you don't think it affects your life the policies made and promoted in DC definitely affect someone else's and you should care about that. Christians should care about that. This is literally what I stay up thinking about late at night.

Primaries are important too. You get a chance to help decide who it numbers down too. Please don't follow my example, please vote.

I just feel so blessed that I regularly have the chance to love and encourage my students every day. Everyday I am serving 22 students - and that in itself is a gift even when it goes underappreciated.

And today I was reminded that even people who look like they have it all together need a little love. They need to know that someone cares and is willing to listen to them. For all the lack of gratitude and selfish ambition I can encounter in this job/environment, there are still those gems of students. How completely wonderful it is for our paths to cross our lives to be better because of it. Is that cheesy? Is that too "For Good"? I just know that that gift is such a God thing.

Today I went out to lunch with a student who stayed home from his internship because he was stressed out over a paper and as we got to talking it turned out that he was distraught over so much more pain in his life than just a paper. And it just hit my heart - as ambitious and successful he is at life already, he's still just a boy who needs God and needs someone to show him God's love. I'm so glad he chose to open up to me and gave me the opportunity to let him know that I'm praying for him.

There's really nothing better than being able to extend God's love to someone. It's got to be the best thing in life. I hope we all recognize the opportunities to do it every day.
